Ropecon, the largest non-commercial roleplaying festival in Europe, takes place from 15th to 17th of May in Otaniemi, Espoo. The festival attracts over 3500 visitors interested in roleplaying, card games, miniatures, board games, LARPs. Ropecon is not only about playing or gaming, but the event also has a plethora of lectures and workshops with a wide variety of interesting topics.
The Ropecon festival has been held annually from the year 1994. The very first Ropecon was held in hotel Paasitorni, Helsinki. After 1994 the number of attendees has increased drastically and a larger venue was needed, and thus the Ropecon was moved to Dipoli, Espoo, where Ropecon is organized for the 15th time thus far.
Roleplaying enthusiasts hungry for their yearly fix of Ropecon have grown in numbers year by year. The 1994 Ropecon saw a few hundred people attend, but in 2002 we had already reached 3000 annual visitors. The record number of visitors was in 2007 with a grand total of 3946 people.
Guests arrive from all across Finland and other countries, though the majority of the visitors live near Helsinki.
